PEORIA, Ill. -- A 16-year-old is dead and six others were taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning.

Illinois State Police said a pick-up was going to fast for the icy conditions near I-74 and I-474 just after 10 a.m. when the driver lost control and crashed into a car.

Brooklyn Armstrong of Carlinville was killed in the accident. Her autopsy is scheduled Monday. None of the five people in the truck were wearing seatbelts.

The two people in the car were also taken to the hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, Kevin Kiehna was cited for driving too fast for conditions, failure to secure a 15 year-old in a seatbelt and failure to wear a seatbelt. In addition, Dylan Kiehna and Tiffany Kiehna, both 22, were cited for failure to wear a seatbelt.

A 15 year old juvenile male was also injured in the accident. He is in fair condition.

Icy conditions also played a role in another accident on Interstate 74; this time going East.

The Brimfield fire department responded to a crash involving two SUV's.

It happened just east of the Edwards- Kickapoo exit. The road was shut down until firefighters cleared the scene.

The extent of any injuries is not yet known.
