PEORIA, Ill. -- Better water quality and service is on its way for nearly 200 homes in Peoria.

Illinois American Water crews are working on transferring water services to a new water main in Peoria's El Vista subdivision.

A company spokesperson said accessing water pipes will be less intrusive, since workers will not have to dig into yards.

The investment comes at a cost of approximately $1.5 million with no extra burden to customers.

"It's included in our rates that we put in place with the last rate base, so it's not going to be in any new rates,” said Illinois American Water Spokesperson Karen Cotton. “So this is something that our customers are already paying for."

Construction is expected to wrap up in the El Vista subdivision by the end of October.
