Illinois Fire Departments sharing grant of $2 million for small equipment

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Governor Pat Quinn announced Tuesday that 96 fire departments across the state will share $2 million in grant funds to purchase small equipment, protective clothing, breathing apparatus and other tools for firefighters.

These Small Equipment Grants are funded through a percentage of all fire insurance sold in Illinois, and are distributed through the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Locally, the Limestone Township Fire Protection District received a grant of over $24,000.

In McLean County, Mt. Hope-Funk’s Grove Fire Protection District received a grant of $26,000, Leroy Community Fire Protection District received a grant of $19,000 and Ellsworth Fire Protection District received $17,339.
