SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- On Tuesday, members of the Illinois House approved several amendments to House Bill 1155, concealed carry, during hours of sometimes turbulent debate.
Lawmakers approved the Amendment from St. Rep. Brandon Phelps, a long-time backer of concealed carry, which would require the state to issue a concealed carry license to anyone meeting the proper qualifications.
An $80 fee was part of the amendment as were restrictions on where a weapon could be carried.
The bill is now up for a second reading and it is possible that all of Tuesday's votes were just a preliminary to a final all-inclusive bill.
Illinois is under court orders to approve a concealed carry bill by June.
