Bloomington-Normal will receive about $545,000 from the state to be used on local transportation needs.
The money is part of the state's capital bill program Illinois Jobs Now!
"Some of the local roads are in desperate need of repair so this money will be put to good use in Bloomington-Normal," said State Representative Dan Brady. "It will be up to local governments to decide what road projects they will use the money for."
The Illinois Department of Transportation anticipates local governments will receive the first installment of the $500 million local government component of the Illinois Jobs Now! Capital bill program by mid October 2010.
Bloomington is slated to receive about $325,000 and Normal will get about $219,000.
Distribution allotments by county, road district or municipality may be viewed on-line at http://www.dot.il.gov/FY2011/map.aspx.
The local projects selected must meet the same eligibility requirements as those funded through the fuel tax.
Qualified projects include: local street and bridge maintenance, new traffic signals, storm sewer and bike path construction, sidewalk replacements, and pothole repairs.
