PEORIA, Ill. -- Officials with Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program are hoping women and minorities take advantage of various construction jobs available.
State officials held an informational meeting Monday morning at the Peoria Next Innovation Center.
The goal was to familiarize contractors, designers and suppliers with bidding opportunities available throughout Illinois and to draw interest from anyone looking to work on state-funded construction projects.
"The process through the state is a little confusing sometimes," said Todd Thompson, president of Thompson Brothers Inc. "There are a lot of hoops to jump through that maybe we wouldn't understand without an opportunity like this."
"This is a very important part of our economy and I want to make sure that local businesses here in central Illinois have an opportunity to do that just as any business throughout the state would," said State Senator Dave Koehler, (D) 46th District.
Monday's meeting is part of a series of outreach efforts being held throughout the state to keep the construction industry involved in the $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program.
