MADISON COUNTY, Ill. -- Illinois State Police announced Wednesday the largest cash seizure that they have had in years.
On January 26 at 3:30 pm, a State Trooper stopped a 2004 white Volvo for improper lane usage and an illegal license plate cover on I-55 near Collinsville.
A search of the vehicle yielded 27 vacuum-sealed plastic bags containing over $1.5 million in United State currency.
Arrested for money laundering was Carole Irene Galvez, 62, from Gila Bend, Arizona. She is currently being held in Madison County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
The Illinois State Police say that cash amounts this large are usually connected to drug trafficking.
