Illinois State Trooper killed in crash near Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Illinois State Police are once again mourning the death of one of their own.

A trooper died in a fiery crash last night near Chicago.

Authorities say 28-year-old trooper James Sauter was parked on the should of Interstate 294 when a semi truck smashed into the back of his squard car. Both vehicles burst into flames.

Trooper Sauter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities do not know why the squad car was pulled over on the shoulder of the road or if its emergency lights are on.

The semi driver suffered a burn to his hand. The crash remains under investigation.

Trooper Sauter is survived by his a wife and family.
