Illinois Supreme Court chief justice installed in Danville

DANVILLE, Ill. -- Illinois has a new Supreme Court chief justice, and for the second time, it is a woman.

Judge Rita Garman was back in Danville, where her legal career started, for her installation as chief justice.

She is the longest serving female judge in Illinois and the first chief justice to ever serve in every office at every level of the state judiciary.

Garman got her start in Danville as a legal aid then later become an associate judge in Vermilion County.
