Peoria, Ill -- Illinois' top cop was in Peoria Wedneasday
Attorney General Lisa Madigan appeared to detail more action against synthetic marijuana and cocaine.
Madigan, Peoria County Sheriff Michael McCoy and several local police chiefs announced seizure of almost 700 packages of the illegal drugs.
"Operation Smoke Out" targets the powerful drugs that are marketed as legal products like "bath salts".
13 convenience stores were visited, with three of them stocking the illegal substances.
Madigan says the drugs are being marketed specifically to children.
"One of them here on this table, you got a big picture of Scooby Doo and is says Scooby Snacks. So clearly they're marketing these products to younger people, and unfortunately those are the people who have been taking them and having these terrible adverse reactions," said the attorney general.
The stores that had these drugs confiscated escaped prosecution because the laws are new, but that tolerance from the police will end soon.
"Wherever they're at in Peoria county, we're going to be visiting them and we're going to give them the opportunity to sign the consent form that says that they understand how deadly they are, how illegal they are and that they won't sell them. If they continue to sell them and we go back, then they're going to be arrested and as you today, the state's attorney is going to prosecute them to the fullest," said Peoria County Sheriff Michael McCoy.
The drugs seized has a street value of almost $11,000.
