SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is reporting that a total of 180,669 deer were taken during all 2012-13 hunting seasons.
Illinois deer seasons closed on January 20 as the last Archery Deer Season wrapped up.
Illinois hunters took slightly less deer this season than last season. In 2011-12, hunters took 181,451 animals. The record for most deer taken in a season is the 2005-06 season, when 201,209 deer were taken.
The IDNR reports that hunters took 49 percent does and 51 percent bucks during this year's hunting season.
