PEORIA, Ill. -- If you thought gas below $3 a gallon was a thing of the past, you may be in for a pleasant surprise.

According to GasBuddy.com, prices in Peoria fell almost 6 cents last week to $3.46 a gallon.

That's down almost 40 cents from this time last year.

Some industry experts say prices will continue to fall, even below $3 a gallon for the first time in three years.

Those experts say crude oil prices have fallen as signs of diplomatic progress emerge regarding Syria and Iran.
