BARTONVILLE, Ill. -- Police officers are vital to protecting the citizens of a community.

That protection does not always come in the form of humans. In Bartonville, a police canine named Shadow has been working for years but he is now suffering from hip dysplasia. That means the time has come for him to retire.

News 25's Ashley McNamee sat down with Officer Matt Schumm and Kristy Brawner of the Bartonville Police Department to talk about their efforts to raise funds for a new K-9 unit.
