PEORIA, Ill. -- A non-profit organization in Peoria is providing a home away from home over the holidays, but they couldn't do it this year without the help of some volunteers.
Families of hospital patients and nursing home residents have the option of staying closer to their loved ones with Family House in Peoria.
Their facilities include 20 rooms with lounges and a lobby.
The cost is $39 per night.
All you need is documentation from a hospital or nursing home to apply for their services.
"We get lots of notes on our board over here in the corner that tells us how thankful they are that they had a place to stay and that they were able to be so close. We are only about six blocks so can you imagine six blocks versus having to be out by the mall," said Family House Office Administrator Keke Odom.
But it took a group of volunteers to keep Family House feeling like a home on Tuesday.
Members of the Anshai Emeth Jewish Temple volunteered at the house, washing and folding laundry.
"Most of us aren't busy today so we come in and take over for their staff. They have volunteers that come normally too so we take over for those volunteers and their main staff," said Anshai Emeth President Paul Beiersdorf.
Anshai Emeth has been volunteering at the Family House on Christmas for over 15 years.
