A local girls' basketball teamis pairing up with the American Red Cross to combat that.
Saturday, the Peoria Journey to Empowerment through Motivation and Self-Esteem (JEMS) Girls' basketball team is hosting a blood drive at the Proctor Recreational Center located at 309 S. DuSable St. in Peoria.
The girls have set a goal of 100 pints in honor of the Proctor Center's 100 years in the community.
All are encouraged to donate, walk-ins are welcomed or you can schedule an appointment.
The drive runs from 8-30 am to 2-30 pm.
