SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Police are warning drivers in McLean County to start the new year with the right attitude behind the wheel or pay the price.
Illinois State Police are beefing up patrols during the month of January through what they call Alcohol Counter-measure Enforcement, or ACE Patrols.
They target impaired driving and illegal transportation, or driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs.
Statistics show an average of one alcohol related traffic death occurring every 51 minutes in the United States, and alcohol and drugs are significant factors in nearly 40 percent of all fatal crashes in Illinois.
State police warn if they catch you driving impaired, you will be arrested.
