SPRINGFIELD, Ill -- Secretary of State Jesse White announced Wednesday that his office will be monitoring title applications involving potential flood vehicles from Hurricane Sandy.

White said in a press release that his office will screen title applications from states impacted by the hurricane to see if the vehicles are registered in a flood county.

White is requiring the applicants for those titles to submit a Hurricane Disclosure Statement to obtain an Illinois title.

"While my office will do everything it can to protect Illinois consumers, it is always important that consumers also take active steps to protect themselves from purchasing damaged vehicles," White said.

According to the Secretary of State's office, reports indicate that as many as 250,000 vehicles may be affected by the hurrricane's flood waters.
