MCLEAN CO., Ill. -- McLean County Sheriff's Deputies are helping to buckle up area children in hopes to lower infant and toddler car related deaths.
Wednesday, the McLean County F.O.P Lodge 176 presented the Baby Fold with a $10,000 check.
The donation will provide free infant and toddler car seats to low income families.
During traffic stops, the officers realized that many parents of unrestrained children are unable to afford the high costs of car seat.
"They have the option of either buying a car seat and/or paying a fine. So we chose to provide the car sear for some low income families and hopefully make a difference in the safety of some children," said Glen Wagner of the McLean County F.O.P. Lodge 176.
The Baby Fold has partnered with Evenflo to purchase car seats at a discounted rate.
To apply for a free car seat, call the Baby Fold office at 454-1770. Families must provide proof of eligibility through a medical card, WIC or LINK card, or receipt of subsidized housing.
