CANTON, Ill. -- The new public safety director of Canton has suddenly resigned.

Jim Kuchenbecker resigned Monday after just two weeks on the job.

A memo was circulated to Canton Fire Department personnel Monday, and reporters have been told a news release will be coming Tuesday.

Kuchenbecker retired as Washington Police Chief on June 30.

A Freedom of Information Act request by the Washington paper revealed that before he left, Kuchenbecker and Washington officials signed a confidentiality agreement not to comment on an investigation into the Chief's activities.

So far, Canton City officials have not commented on the report.
