LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- NBC News is reporting that Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss has passed away. He was 80 years old.

Buss is one of the most successful sports owners in history, winning 10 titles during his time owning the Lakers.

Some of basketball's biggest stars, including Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson, have played on the Lakers over this time span.

Buss had been hospitalized some time with an undisclosed form of cancer, but the severity of his condition had not been revealed until recently.

The Buss family still retains ownership of the Lakers franchise.
