PEORIA, Ill. -- At Lakeview Museum staff and volunteers are already busy going through inventory in anticipation of the big move to the Peoria Riverfront museum this fall.

Right now, they are wrapping and moving 17,000 collection pieces into an off-site storage facility.

The art has been stored and kept on shelves inside Lakeview over the years.

Lakeview's Senior Curator says the off-site storage facility is about double the size of the space inside the museum.

She says having the storage facility will allow them to have more exhibit space at the new museum.

"We are getting the collection all moved so that will be all done in place and then we can start the equally arduous process but very exciting, of installing the new exhibits in the new museum," said Museum Curator Kristan McKinsey.

McKinsey says all of the current exhibits on display will remain there until September first when Lakeview closes.

The Peoria Riverfront Museum opens October 20th.
