CHICAGO -- The Illinois Senate is in Springfield for the Lame Duck Session. Among the heated topics of discussion: the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act.
The bill would legalize same sex marriage in Illinois, making it the 10th state in the nation to do so.
In Chicago Wednesday, Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon and openly gay actor Jesse Tyler-Ferguson launched "marriage Equality Days of Action" in support of the bill.
"We are calling on all of us and our extended family to call on their legislators and really move Illinois forward," Simon said.
On Tuesday, Chicago Archbishop Cardinal Francis George sent a letter to parishes arguing against gay marriage.
The Senate could vote on the measure as early as Thursday.
