CENTRAL ILLINOIS -- The number of Illinois employees being laid off this year topped 10,000 in August, according to state reports.
The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity's August mass layoff report listed seven companies who intend to trim or eliminate their workforce by nearly 1,100 .
In Central Illinois, Thyssen Krupp Manufacturing is closing its wheelchair lift and home elevator facility in Roanoke, putting more than 100 jobs on the line.
In LaSalle, Automobile parts seller J.C. Whitney is shutting down a call center affecting 68 employees.
However, the monthly mass layoffs figures have dropped since May, with a year low of 358 in July.
