EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- Local residents got the chance to learn about car seat safety today, thanks to the Children's Hospital of Illinois.

The event was held at the East Peoria Kohl's, and addressed questions like -- is your child's safety seat correctly installed in your car? And is it correctly fitted?

Children's Hospital officials say -- in the Tri-County area -- four out of five car seats are improperly installed.

They hope their free tutorial will help assure children's safety.

"If you don't have your car seat properly installed, your child could be severely injured in the event of a crash," said Kathy Youngman, of the Children's Hospital of Illinois. "It is important to make sure that you have your car seat in there and it is tight. You want your child in the right seat at the right time, and you want to use it properly every time."

For those who were not able to make it to the free tutorials, officials advise reading the car-seat and car's owner manuals before installing.
