WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Rural airports in communities like Marion, Quincy, and Decatur, will continue to be a part of the Essential Air Service program, thanks to newly approved legislation.
U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) said the FAA Air Transportation Modernization and Safety Improvement Act was passed in both the House and Senate and now moves to the President for final approval.
"This bill will ensure that airports in Quincy, Marion, and Decatur have scheduled commercial air service--an enormous tool for communities to retain and attract businesses," said Durbin.
The EAS program was originally going to be cut out of the former House bill, but was re-included in the Senate version of the bill.
The final bill funds air service and puts reforms in place to ensure communities can retain quality air service to rural communities.
