PEORIA, Ill. – Larry W. Gilmore was appointed the new fire chief of Limestone Township Fire Protection District in the June 5 meeting of the Board of Trustees.

“Chief Gilmore possesses a unique combination of skills,” said Board of Trustees President Dr. Andrew Bland. “He has proven he can lead during challenging times and has demonstrated his ability to focus an organization around a core mission in order to best serve the community. We selected an exceptional leader for an exceptional organization.”

The position has been vacant since Terry Capps left in November 2013.

Gilmore was with the Air National Guard for 31 years, 24 of which he served as the fire chief for the 182nd Airlift Wing.

He has also served with many committees and associations as a member of the regional Emergency Services including the Peoria County EMA/Local Emergency Planning Council, American Red Cross Disaster Advisory Council and Peoria County Fire Chiefs’ Association.
