TREMONT, Ill.-- Clean-up and recovery efforts are still moving forward after Hurricane Sandy devastated the East Coast more than 70 days ago. While most people here in Illinois haven't experienced hurricane aftermath, Dan Smith from Champaign has.
Smith, Regional Coordinator for the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, joined 13 other from Illinois in a deployment to New York for two weeks to assist with recovery efforts.
After returning home, Smith shared his experience with a group in Tremont.
"The two main tasks that we did were: one-provide relief to their people who have been working 24 hours a day for an excess of 12 days," he said. "And then the second mission was a humanitarian mission, where we assisted and supervised teams that went door-to-door to check on welfare."
