PEORIA, Ill. -- A local student has received national recognition for artwork she did in class.

Carly Coyle is a Senior at Peoria Notre Dame High School.

Earlier in the year she produced a print of her and her brother.

Carly's art teacher, Maggie Off, suggested she enter it into the Scholastic Art and Writing competition.

She took second place and will soon head to New York City to receive her Silver Key, and have her print displayed at Carnegie Hall.

Carly says this whole experience has been shocking.

"Honestly this was my first art competition that I've ever been in and for it to go this far and hen go onto nationals was amazing. I was blown away," she said.

Carly will be head to New York at the end of May.

She says thanks to this experience she is now thinking about studying art in college.
