PEORIA, Ill. -- You may have heard Ken Zurski doing traffic reports on the radio, but now he is adding "author" to his title.
Out this week is his first published novel, "The Wreck of the Columbia."
It's a non-fiction book about a tragic shipwreck along the Illinois River in 1918.
Eighty-seven of the nearly 500 passengers died in the disaster, and most of them were from Pekin.
"Some people may find names in there that they recognize, and that may lead them to do more research on it," said Zurski. "Maybe they'll find that one of their relatives was on the boat that night. You learn a lot about your town's history through tragedies like this."
Zurski says he would love for relatives and the public to share stories of the Columbia, if they have any.
"The Wreck of the Columbia" is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and amikapress.com.
