NORMAL Ill -- A local high school choir will take the big stage this weekend as they perform with a legendary rock band.
Excitement and tension has been running high for the last two weeks at University High School in Normal.
That is because the school's choir group was announced the winner of a local competition.
"We entered a contest sponsored by radio station WGLO, where we submitted a video of some of our group members singing the song, I Want To Know What Love Is," said U-High Choir Director, Chris Corpus. "Then we were selected from a couple of local schools."
The prize for the competition is to sing in front of thousands at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum with the 80's rock band, Foreigner.
"It's definitely a big opportunity," said U-High Junior, Everson Pierce. "I mean how many people get to say I performed with Foreigner. Not many. I consider it a big opportunity. I don't think I will ever get to perform with foreigner again in the Coliseum."
A group of about 18 choir members have practicing the chorus of Foreigner's number one hit, "I Want To Know What Love Is" over the past two weeks.
All of their hard work will come together Saturday night, as they sing that chorus with Foreigner.
Some of the students that will be performing Saturday have been singing in the choir since they were in elementary school.
They said performing at the Coliseum is a once in a life-time opportunity.
"It's kind of the icing on the cake for senior year in choir," said U-High Senior, Kailey Zalucha. "I think we are really prepared. I think it will come down to how will we be on stage. Hopefully we won't look awkward. But I think we will do really good."
Foreigner will also be giving back to the singers.
They are donating $500, which will go towards the school's music program.
The show starts at 7:30 Saturday evening.
Tickets are still available starting at $35.
