PEORIA, Ill. -- Mt. Olive Church opened its doors to job seekers on Tuesday as it played host to the HOI Job and Resource Fair.

The event featured local employers such as OSF St. Francis, HGS, Jim Maloof, Merrill Lynch, all 18 Building Trades such as IBEW, Carpenters and Plumbers as well as Auto Zone.

It kicked off with a “Power Breakfast" with keynote speaker state Representative Jehan Gordan-Booth.

Church leaders said hosting the event falls in line with their mission to help residents.

Applicants said getting information about different vocations helps them make better decisions.

"It lets you know what's available, what's not, things that you might not realize is out there that is available,” said job seeker Dana Deford. “It's attainable. It's not above your reach or goals if you have a drive you can do it.”

The event was put on with the help of the Southside Mission and Children's Home.
