EAST PEORIA, Ill. – Motorcycle officers from five area departments are updating their training to ensure safety on the road.

Tazewell County Chief Deputy Jeff Lower oversaw the refresher course.

He said having the officers train together keeps efficiency up and promotes motorcycle safety.

Though the officers make the course look easy, Lower said controlling a motorcycle with skill is not like riding a bicycle.

"If you don't continue to train and continue to keep it up, you can lose it,” said Deputy Lower. “So we try to get together as much as we can, depending on the departments and all of the different schedules, to maintain our skills."

The group consisted of 13 officers from Peoria, East Peoria and Bartonville along with Peoria County and Tazewell County.
