PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. -- Local organizations are teaching residents how to live life more sustainably.

To celebrate this coming Earth Day, Forest Park Nature Center hosted an event designed to raise awareness about preserving the environment.

It was Forest Park Nature Center's 10th Annual Earth Day Festival.

More than 40 organizations, like the Sierra Club, brought samples, diagrams, pamphlets and other educational materials for participants.

"I hope that when they grow up they enjoy doing these kinds of activities rather than carnivals and other manufacture type fun," said Peoria Resident Sue Ramey.

"This is a great way of introducing people to environmental concerns," said Talon Witt of ICC's Environmental Student Association.

Guests could learn about native plant species, energy efficiency, eco-friendly products and more.
