PEORIA, Ill. -- The League of Women Voters of Greater Peoria kicked off their support for the "Yes to Independent Maps" campaign Saturday morning.
Volunteers set up camp at two locations on Saturday--Apples Bakery in Peoria and Haddad's Market in West Peoria.
"Gerrymandering is when leader in power draw the congressional districts to their political advantage. We want an independent, non-partisan, neutral party to be the ones to draw the lines," said volunteer from the League of Women Voters, Pat Landes.
Every Saturday from 10AM-12PM, volunteers from the League of Women Voters will be at Apples Bakery at 8412 N. Knoxville ready to answer questions, hand our petitions and notarize petitions that people bring in.
Saturday, November 23, there will be another event like this at Haddad's Market at 2407 W. Rohmann in West Peoria from 10AM-6PM
The following Mondays on November 18 & 25, there will also be volunteers available to help at Spotted Cow at 718 W. Glen Ave from 11AM-1PM.
