PEKIN, Ill. -- One area woman can now take to the street thanks to a local organization.

On Tuesday, the Pekin AMBUCS organization presented 28-year-old Brittney Simpson with a special Amtryke bike.

The bike is specially made for people with disabilities. Brittney, who has cerebral palsy, even helped build her own bike.

"I'm super excited because this is the first time...I've never ridden a bike before so its pretty much a blessing for me honestly," said Brittney. "I'm excited to be able to go out with my friends."

"Normally these children are not able to ride bicycles. They are not able to ride tricycles," said Pekin AMBUCS member Larry Trunkenmiller. "They have siblings that do ride bicycles and tricycles. Now all of the sudden they have that opportunity."

AMBUCS members said Brittney was the first ever to help assemble the bike she was to receive.

After the assembly was complete Brittney rode a bike down the street.for the first time.
