PEORIA, Ill, -- A changing of the guard occurred Tuesday evening with the longest sitting Peoria city clerk retiring from her post after 27 years of service to the community.
Mary Haynes' career as city clerk has spanned six mayors and almost forty council members. With the backdrop of the current city council, Mayor Jim Ardis read a proclamation thanking Haynes for her job well done.
Haynes went on to say that it wasn't her alone who did the job, but thanked the people she worked with calling the group, "Team City Clerk."
As her last official act, Haynes swore in the woman who is taking her job, Beth Ball. Ball has been working in the city clerk's office for twenty three years.
