PELHAM, Ala. -- Reports in Pelham, Alabama say colorful costumes were no match for the chilly waters of Oak Mountain Lake as they plunged into the lake.
Many of them were law enforcement officers who collected pledges and made donations to participate in the "Polar Plunge," to support Alabama's Special Olympics athletes.
A large bon-fire was there to keep the participants from freezing.
Which would have been difficult, because it was fifty degrees there, or, as we say in Illinois, tee-shirt weather.
Participants did have to make their way out to a wetsuit-clad volunteer for a high-five.
