Actually, there are no true facts about the amorous spotted slug except that it doesn't exist.

However, that hasn't stopped the efforts to name the amorous spotted slug as Michigan's official slug.

Some in the upper-penninsula said they are overlooked by the rest of the state.

Creator Larry Biggie said that's not the point. He believes the creature could be a major marketing asset for the UP, sort of like the lochness monster is for Scotland, and the little green men are for Roswell, New Mexico.

If Biggie and his slug non-believer outreach teams, or S.N.O.T's, collect at least 10,000 signatures, the petition will go to state lawmakers who could pass legislation to create the Michigan State slug.
