Man accused of hitting firefighter with shovel as he tried to extinguish illegal burn

According to a news release from the Charlotte County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office, a 44-year-old Florida man was arrested last week for allegedly hitting a firefighter in the helmet with a shovel as he was trying to put out a fire behind the suspect's home.

The suspect is charged with aggravated battery on a firefighter with a deadly weapon and preventing or obstructing extinguishment of a fire, according to the news release.
