PEORIA, Ill. -- Peoria Police have arrested a suspect in the murder of downtown club owner Todd Scholl.

Bryan J. Stewart, 29, is in the Peoria County Jail on charges of murder and aggravated arson.

Police said after bringing Stewart in for questioning, he admitted to fatally stabbing Scholl and setting a building on fire in an attempt to cover up the murder.

Scholl owned two downtown Peoria nightclubs, Diesel and Berlin. He used the building where his body was found for storage.

Stewart and Scholl were said to be acquaintances. However, their exact relationship was not given by police.

Authorities believe Stewart is the sole suspect in the crimes, but said there is no clear motive.

"We had video and pictures that we shared of Mr. Stewart and Mr. Scholl about 30 minutes before the fire was reported," said Peoria Police Captain, Mike Eddlemon. "That was why we wanted to speak with Stewart. We have other physical evidence and obviously Stewart's statements, which I can't get into the specifics of."

Police add that it is possible Stewart may face additional charges after the case is reviewed by the State's Attorney.

Stewart was already facing charges of felony possession of a controlled substance after a 2012 arrest.
