Man arrested in latest Peoria Homicide

PEORIA, Ill. -- Cortez Williams, 25, was arrested Monday evening on a charge of First Degree Murder.

Peoria Police believe Williams was the gunman in the fatal shooting of Melvin Sanders Jr.

The shooting happened late Saturday night in the 1600 block of Stanley Street. Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was shot in the head and taken to an area hospital. His condition is unknown.

Williams is being held in the Peoria County Jail.
