PEORIA, Ill. -- Since the weekend, Peoria's homicide count has more than doubled. Now police are warning arrests will be made, as early as tonight.
Authorities are investigating the latest incident: a shooting that killed a 25-year-old man early Tuesday morning.
Brandon Thomas was found with gunshot wounds to the head behind a home at 1501 West Howett Street. He was pronounced dead about an hour later, at two Tuesday morning.
Authorities say Thomas grew up in Peoria, but would travel to and from his residence in Quincy, Illinois.
Police believe this shooting is gang-related and ties into Sunday's shooting that left 17-year-old Treyshawn Blakely dead about two blocks away.
Patrolling officers are saturating the area, targeting the gangs "Zone Four" and "Four Corner Hustlers" specifically.
"We are very concerned that this isn't over," Peoria Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard said. "And we're very concerned that we now have a very serious what I call a brushfire burning that needs to be put out."
Tuesday's fatal shooting is Peoria's third homicide in five days, the fifth homicide this year.
