LINCOLN, Ill. – Illinois State Police are investigating a fatal shooting by a Lincoln Police Officer.

Officers responded to the Glass House Tavern at 700 Pulaski Street in Lincoln just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

There they found 62 year old Donald Letterle fighting a woman.

A bartender said Letterle had been asked to leave the bar earlier, but returned later carrying a gun.

Police aren't saying much, other than an officer engaged Letterle and shot him.

Letterle died from the gunshot wound.

The woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The officer is on administrative leave, and Illinois State Police are investigating.
