MCLEAN CO., Ill. -- One McLean County man is dead after his vehicle crashed into a house in Shirley, Illinois Thursday morning.
According to the McLean County coroner, at approximately 10:16 a.m. Thursday officers responded to a call that a vehicle had struck a house near the intersection of Shirlane and 850 North in Shirley. Upon their arrival, rescue personnel observed a pick-up truck which had struck the rear of a garage.
They found the driver of the truck, Ramon A. Castro Jr., 19, belted in the driver's seat. He had no obvious signs of life. The Coroner’s Office was notified, and the man was pronounced dead at 10:53 am.
A Thursday evening autopsy's prelimenary results indicate that Castro died of skull and brain injuries after being struck in the head with a chain link fence pole. Castro works third shift and was reportedly headed home from work.
Preliminary evidence indicates the driver of the truck has headed West on 850 North when his vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason. It then struck a chain link fence before hitting the garage.
The McLean County Sheriff’s Department and the McLean County Coroner's Office continue to investigate the death.
