SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- As if gun control and same sex marriage weren't causing enough controversy in state government, a medicinal marijuana bill may soon hit the House floor.
The House Health and Human Services committee approved House Bill 1 Wednesday. The bill would allow people suffering from specific medical conditions, such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, and HIV/AIDS, to use medical marijuana if their doctors recommend it.
Several state departments would regulate the cultivation, acquisition, and distribution of marijuana.
House Bill 1 now heads to the full House.
