EUREKA, Ill. -- A crowded court calender in Woodford county has delayed the trial of Kenny Meinders.
Meinders faces multiple felony counts --including two counts of aggravated battery and disarming a peace officer.
Meinder's confrontation with police took place in August of last year, at a home in Lowpoint after police received a domestic disturbance call.
Meinders attorneys say he was asleep when police arrived and that he was beaten and tazed repeatedly by five officers.
Police say Meinders is the one who fought them.
Woodford County State's Attorney Greg Mingers says an Illinois State Police investigation validates that claim.
Earlier this month the Washburn Village Board held a meeting to determine one of the officers involved is in good standing in the city.
Once a new chief is hired, if Officer Jim Cunningham applies, he could be rehired.
A Washburn trustee is hopeful a new chief will be in place this month, if not this week.
The trial is now scheduled for Wednesday.
