PEORIA, Ill. -- Children's Hospital of Illinois, an affiliate of OSF has selected a Metamora youth as its Champion Ambassador for 2014.

Eleven-year-old Payton McDonald will travel around the country on behalf of Children's Hospital and the Children's Miracle Network.

He hopes to raise awareness about fundraising for the hospital.

As a diabetic patient, Payton and his family have benefited from the Children's Hospital in Peoria.

“When I was 8-years-old I was diagnosed with diabetes, they took care of me and gave me advice to control my diabetes," he said.

"We continue to get outstanding care there,” said Jennnifer McDonald, Payton's mother. “It's the highest quality of care that you can receive and we're so lucky to be living near a local children's miracle network hospital.”

In November, Payton will travel to Washington D.C. to help promote Children's Hospital on a national level.
