PEORIA, Ill. -- Russia was bombarded by meteorites on Thursday, causing doors and windows to be blown out and injuring 1,000 people.
What would happen if a meteorite damaged any of your belongings? State Farm said meteorites are indeed covered by some of their insurance polices.
Under their homeowner policy, damage to a building by falling pieces of a meteorite or asteroid would be covered by Homeowners and Business-owners policies.
Under the Homeowners Policy, meteorites are covered as "falling objects".
Damage to property inside the building would be covered if the falling debris first damages and penetrates the building roof or walls, then damages the property on the inside.
Under State Farm's Auto Policy, falling objects would be covered under Comprehensive Coverage.
However, falling objects are not covered by Collision Coverage. Collision covers the cost, minus the deductible, to repair your car after you collided with another car, an object such as a fence, or if you hit a deep pothole and caused damage to your car.
