PEORIA, Ill -- Methodist Medical Center in Peoria officially has a new name.

The Hospital will now be called Unity Point Health-Methodist.

The hospital became part of Iowa Health Systems in 2011, and the incorporated medical facilities are all under the name Unity Point Health.

Doctor Keith Knepp says the incorporation offers even more efficient use of technology and communication at Unity Point Health-Methodist.

"So many patients experience fragmented care now, where those providers, those physicians aren't talking together and to each other," according to Dr. Knepp. "Our mission is to provide coordinated care and to say the point of that care that we'll be unified around is you, the patient."

Doctor Knepp says exterior and interior signage for the medical center will be switched over in stages during the next year.

He adds the name change will be the only adjustment and that staff and the board of directors will remain local.
