Midwest Food Bank sends food boxes to tornado victims

PEORIA, Ill. -- The Midwest Food Bank is sending family food boxes to tornado victims in Oklahoma.

The food bank received a request from the Salvation Army. Each family food box contains food and personal care products for a family of four for four or five days.
 
The first semi load of boxes left from the food bank’s facility in Peoria Wednesday morning. A second load left from Bloomington Wednesday afternoon.
 
Additional loads are expected to leave next week.
 
Each semi trailer holds 750 boxes. Each box is valued at $23 with a semi load costing $17,250. The food bank is also sending pallets of bottled water and drinks.
